Celeste Cortesi does not believe this “sumpa” in MUPH
Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi has this reaction to the so-called “sumpa” or curse of winning the crown.
It has been a constant topic after the MUPH pageant that the curse might also happen to the reigning queen. Several queens who won this title broke up with their partners after the pageant.
Based on the article in PEP, this is what happened to Miss Universe 1999 1st runner-up Miriam Quiambao, Miss Universe 2012 1st runner-up Janine Tugonon, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo, at Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez.
Celeste Cortesi is currently in a relationship with Filipino-British football player Mathew Custodio. In a recent interview on King of Talk Boy Abunda’s Fast Talk, the beauty queen was asked about the so-called “sumpa.”
She stressed that she does not believe in this “toxic” observation by pageant fans. Celeste also said that her boyfriend is very supportive of her and he understands that the pageant is very important to her.
This is the reason why Mathew was really there during the Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans early this year.
“I think what’s really beautiful about our relationship is the fact that we give each other the space and understanding. We really understand each other’s needs, and he knew that Miss Universe was very important to me. So he was really there, especially when I did not get in the Top 16. He was beside me the whole time, together with my mother, friends. Sobrang grateful ako,” Celeste shared.
She also said that she is lucky to receive this kind of support from her boyfriend. Celeste stressed that she and Mathew understand the things that are important to them.
When asked if she and her boyfriend have fights, she said that it is just normal but they know their boundaries. “Stupid things… Sometimes misunderstandings, but we always talk about it,” Celeste Cortesi said when asked about the reasons for their fights.
