Ara Mina proved that she is not “bano”
Actress Ara Mina recalled the time when people would call her “ham actress” and the time she proved that she can act.
Ara was one of the actresses in the Philippine entertainment industry who made the sultry image their stepping stone to get more serious acting jobs. During their era in showbiz, sultry movies were the hype.
With that kind of movie theme, she received criticism that all she can do is to show some flesh in front of the camera. Her acting was slammed. However, the actress was able to achieve longevity in the entertainment industry.
Based on the article in PEP, Ara Mina is now celebrating her 30th anniversary in showbiz. She started her career when she was 14 years old and now that she is 44 years old, she continues to do various acting jobs.
When asked about her secret in having a career until now, she said, “I guess, sinamahan ko ng prayers, non-stop, na parang kumbaga, ‘I-guide Mo ako, thank You for all the blessings, sa mga projects na binibigay Niyo.’”
The actress also said that in every project she does, she is doing her best. She also makes sure to establish good relationships with her coworkers and always treats everyone kindly.
“Nakikisama ako nang maayos sa mga katrabaho ko, sa mga directors, sa mga producers. I see to it na hindi ako pa-diva kasi kahit gaano ka kasikat, kung may attitude ka, hindi ka nila kukunin, e,” Ara shared.
She is also aware of the tag being given to her. Ara was called “ham actress” by her critics because of the perception that she is just good at doing sultry projects and not serious acting jobs.
However, she disproved the claim of some people that she is “bano” or has no talent for acting. It is when she won the Best Actress award in Metro Manila Film Festival 2002 for the movie Mano Po. “Inano ko siya as constructive criticism,” Ara Mina said.
