MMDA Files Charges Against Barangay Chief after Punching Staff
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will file charges against the Barangay Chief after punching one of their staff.
The Barangay Chief who assaulted an MMDA employee during a clearing operation at Dagupan Extention in Tondo, Manila, would face criminal and administrative charges, according to MMDA acting chair Don Artes, who examined the clearing operations in Dagupan Street on Tuesday.
He stated that he will stand behind their employees who are being attacked while performing their duties. He stated that road cleaning activities are being carried out on several roads that are used as alternate routes and have impediments hindering traffic flow.
He stated that Road 10 Yuseco Extension in Dagupan was cleaned because it is the main alternate route in and out of Manila ports. According to him, that the agency will work with the police to maintain peace and order in the area where clearance operations are taking place.
“The agency will coordinate with the police to ensure peace and order in the area where we are conducting clearing operations. This is to avoid incidents where personnel from our teams are injured or harmed by violators,” said Artes.
Based on the report, during these occurrences, the authority urged the public not to use violence. He emphasized that MMDA workers can negotiate and are always instructed to exercise maximum tolerance.
On January 24, Barangay 51 chairperson Rommel Bravo is accused of punching a member of the MMDA Task Force Special Operations and Anti-Colorum Unit. The brawl began when Bravo attempted to prevent MMDA officials from removing the water compressor from his self-service car wash, which was purportedly utilized to provide more funds to the barangay.
