3 Immigration Officers Under Probe Over Involvement in Human Trafficking

Three (3) officers of the Bureau of Immigration are under investigation due to alleged involvement in human trafficking.

The three officials are being investigated for their alleged involvement in human trafficking syndicates, according to a BI spokesperson. The agency reports that two policemen are posted to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the other to the Clark International Airport (CIA).

“Nasa initial stages pa rin tayo but it has been expanded sa tatlong individuals,” said BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval.

According to BI, the three have been removed from front-facing jobs and shifted to back-end offices to enable the probe. Following the probe, the agency will also undergo internal cleansing and restructuring.

The inquiry will not end with the three policemen; we are looking at how many others could be involved internally and externally, according to Sandoval. Based on the report, BI will also be cleaned up and restructured within.

“Looking at the patterns, while it might be too early to jump to conclusions, there might be a link between these immigration officers to illegal syndicates in Myanmar and Cambodia,” BI said.

Their modus operandi, Filipinos are lured with promises of jobs abroad, particularly in Myanmar and Cambodia. In the end, victims would be converted into crypto fraudsters for cybercrime syndicates. The victims were allegedly tortured as well.
