5 “Picky” Taxi Drivers for Refusing to Transport Passengers in Pasay City

Police authorities arrested 5 alleged “picky” taxi drivers for refusing to transport passengers in Pasay City.

Land Transportation Office (LTO) officers arrested five cab drivers for allegedly refusing to transport clients. Roque Verzosa, head of the LTO-National Capital Region West, reported that the passengers arrived at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) after traveling from their province.

He claims that the operation is in response to passengers’ concerns about choosy taxi drivers. Based on the report, LTO enforcers were stationed at bus terminals from January 3 to 5 to ensure that cab drivers did not turn away passengers returning from the provinces.

According to Verzosa, the refusal to transport passengers violates Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01. He, in turn, reminded taxi drivers of their obligations in light of the growing number of individuals who use public transportation.

Refusing to provide a public service or convey a passenger to a destination carries a fine of P5,000 to P15,000. The maximum penalty that can be imposed on an intoxicated driver is the cancellation of the Certificate of Public Conveyance (CPC), which is a basic condition for running public transportation. Other operations were also carried out in various locations of Metro Manila under the authority of the LTO-NCR-West.
