Is this the reason why “Family Matters” did not get nominations during MMFF Gabi ng Parangal?
Many people who watched Family Matters are wondering why the movie did not get any nominations during the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2022 Gabi Ng Parangal and allegedly, this is the reason behind this.
The said movie is directed by Nuel Naval under Cineko Productions. It featured veteran stars Noel Trinidad and Liza Lorena. The cast was joined by Agot Isidro, Mylene Dizon, Nikki Valdez, Nonie Buencamino, and many more.
It tackled issues within a Filipino family and based on the statements from those who have watched this, the movie is good and it really made them cry. However, during the awards night, it did not get any recognition except the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award which is given to movies that best portray Philippine culture and Filipino people to the world.
Agot and Nikki expressed dismay that their movie was not nominated in any category. However, they are thankful for the positive feedback they receive from the moviegoers and this is something more important for them.
In a recent Showbiz Update vlog that Ogie Diaz shared, they talked about the “controversy” in the MMFF 2022. The talent manager-vlogger shared that his source shared that award-winning director Laurice Guillen has something to do with the issue. Ogie stressed that this is not yet confirmed but this is the story that was shared with him.
It was alleged the director who happens to be the MMFF chairperson did not want the movie Tanging Yaman which she directed to be erased from the hearts and minds of moviegoers.
To recall, Direk Laurice directed this movie and was released on December 25, 2000, for that year’s MMFF. In the history of Pinoy films, this somehow became an icon when it comes to family-oriented movies. Allegedly, the director wanted her movie to be a legacy as the most beautiful in the family-oriented category.
“Ha, totoo ba na ayaw maungusan ni Direk Laurice Guillen and kaniyang Tanging Yaman ng Family Matters?” Ogie shared his reaction when the story about this was shared with him. The talent manager-vlogger also stressed that this issue can be clarified by the director.
