Roderick Paulate Reacts to His 62 Years in Jail Over Corruption Charges
Veteran comedian Roderick Paulate shares his reactions to his 62 years of imprisonment due to corruption charges.
Roderick Paulate, an actor and former Quezon City second district councilor, has remained silent about the Sandiganbayan’s verdict in his case until today. On December 3, 2022, the court condemned Paulate to up to 62 years in jail for graft and document forgery.
From July to November 2010, he was accused of employing 30 phantom workers. They were labeled “ghost employees” by the court since some of them could not be shown to exist.
Paulate was granted temporary liberty in 2018 after posting bail for the aforementioned accusations. He was also ordered to pay a fine to the City of Quezon. While he remained silent on the matter, actress Carmi Martin revealed that Paulate was not giving up on the case.
“Noong una, tinext ko siya. I don’t know if he changed this cell number, hindi sumagot. Pero nu’ng nag-send ako sa Messenger, doon sumagot. Sabi niya, ‘I believe in prayers,’ ganun. Sinabi ko, ‘Masyado akong concerned sa health mo.’ Nakakalungkot naman talaga. Napakaganda ng ano, napakaganda ng pangalan ni Roderick as an actor. He is an icon, di ba? Mula bata, di ba? Tapos du’n ka pa mabiktima,” Martin said based on the article of PEP.
She also stated that she and Dick are both receiving maintenance as they approach the age of 60. Carmi stated that she understands Dick’s concerns. The actress also believes that her former co-host was a victim of circumstance. She stated that huge admirers are being apprehended.
The judgment against Paulate stunned the entertainment industry as well because the actor was known for his clean background. They also concluded that Paulate did not need to earn money illegally because he had already made far too much as an actor throughout the course of his career.
