Bea Alonzo shared how she would prepare for a role
Kapuso actress Bea Alonzo revealed that she cried over her role in the 2015 movie The Love Affair.
Bea has done a lot of movies showcasing a wide variety of roles that she can do. She is really hands-on when it comes to shaping her role and she is dedicated to her character development.
In a recent interview, based on the article in Inquirer, the actress said that she believes that sometimes art imitates life. She shared that this is the reason why she and her longtime onscreen partner John Lloyd Cruz decided to do an experiment with directors Antoinette Jadone and Dan Villegas on Instagram in 2020.
“That was an exact representation na hindi mo na alam kong totoo o hindi ang napapanood mo sa social media,” Bea Alonzo said. In line with this, she shared the story of what happened when she did the movie The Love Affair with Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta.
It was written by Vanessa Valdez and directed by Nuel Naval. Her character Adrianne had to do a scene in which she was pleading with a guy. Knowing her character’s traits and how the role was developed, Bea refused to do that.
“But she wanted my character Adie to run after the guy and plead. But I refused to do it because I felt that doing so would strip Adrianne of her dignity! Magmamakaawa s’ya sa lalaki,” Bea shared.
The actress really argued with the writer because of this as they have known each other for a long time already. “I told Ate Van, ‘No self-respecting woman would do that! Huwag mong tanggalan ng dignidad ang character ko,’ I pointed out. ‘Hindi ko magagawa ang eksenang ’yan kasi hindi ako naniniwala! That isn’t Adie’s journey,'” she shared.
Then, the shoot was packed up because it was already 4 am and the writer told the actress to think about her character’s lines. The next day, Bea said that she was a bit upset still but she was a bit open about the idea.
After doing a scene with Ina Feleo, Bea Alonzo said that she couldn’t stop herself from crying. It is because she realized something in common between her and her character.
“I realized in the middle of it that I was actually playing … myself! Ako pala ’yung character na ’yun … and I was just in denial! I’ve been forcing myself on somebody [who didn’t love me as much as I wanted to be loved]. I thought, ‘Sh*t … ako si Adie!’ Then, Ate Van came to me and said, ‘See? I just wanted you to see it for yourself,” the actress shared.
