NU Pep Squad Dance Routine at UAAP CDC 2022 Accused of Plagiarism
National University (NU) Bulldogs Pep Squad was accused of plagiarism over their dance routine at the UAAP Cheerdance competition 2022.
Following its UAAP Season 84 Cheerdance defeat, NU Pep Squad was determined to put on a “relatable” performance in its bid to reclaim the title. The squad adopted a “Cheer-obics” theme, combining cheerleading with aerobics in a routine that had everyone in the audience moving.
The NU Pep Squad’s theme was a hit, and they won the title with 723 points, beating out FEU, who had 719. However, the CDC champion’s routine garnered criticism on social media after being accused of plagiarism.
This led other internet users to come to the group’s defense. According to them, there is no plagiarism in the winning team’s dance routine. Here’s what some netizens had to say, as gathered by Fashion Pulis:
The NU PEP Squad upset the Far Eastern University Cheering Squad, who had previously won the championship in May. The FEU Cheering Squad wins silver with a Francis M-routine, while the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe finally made it onto the podium by taking bronze with a Lady Gaga dance.
UE Pep Squad ranks fourth with their P-pop performance, followed by Adamson Pep Squad in fifth place and the theme “Reinvention.” UP Pep Squad, on the other side, took sixth place, followed by DLSU Animo Squad in seventh place, and Ateneo in last place once again.
