Women “Not Exempted” from Mandatory ROTC: “Gender Equality”

Bato Dela Rosa Claims Women are Not Exempted from Mandatory ROTC

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa claimed that women are not exempted from the mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program.

According to the legislator, women will also take part in the government’s required ROTC program for college. Both men and women would participate in training under the mandatory ROTC proposal.

When asked why women would be included, Dela Rosa said: “Gusto ninyo gender equality. Ayaw ninyong [mga babae] i-consider kayo na weaker sex ‘di ba? So lahat tayo mahalin natin ang ating bansa. Sama-sama tayo rito.”

“Kung aatakihin tayo rito ng kalaban, hindi lang naman lalaki ang tatamaan ng bala, pati babae naman tatamaan ng bala ng kalaban. So tulungan natin depensahan ang ating bansa,” he added.

The senator added that since the mandatory ROTC bill is a government priority, it is probable that it would be passed in the first quarter of 2023, based on the report. Dela Rosa is optimistic that the ROTC, would be made mandatory by the 19th Congress.

Military training can aid in preparing for a variety of threats to the nation’s security, according to the senator who serves as the chairperson of the subcommittee on the “Revitalized ROTC Act.” He emphasized further that the major goal of ROTC training is to prepare for disaster response as much as for combat.
