Chess Champ Bince Operiano Dream is to be Soldier and Chess Grandmaster
The 9-year-old Chess Prodigy Bince Operiano shares his dream to be a soldier and a chess grandmaster when he grows up.
Ben Operiano, Bince Rafael’s father, revealed in an interview that his son intended to become a grandmaster in chess and that he had won the 6th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship in Thailand. In addition, he also desired to join the military and learn to fly.
“Pangarap niya talagang maging isang chess grandmaster at gusto niyang magpalipad ng eroplano at maging sundal,” Mr. Operiano said in an interview.
A player must have an Elo rating of at least 2500, according to the International Chess Federation, in order to get the title of grandmaster. This could be accomplished with two successful outcomes from a total of at least 27 competitive games.
If the player’s top FIDE rating is at least 2300 and they have won the Women’s World Championship, World Junior Championship, or World Senior Championship, they can also be considered a grandmaster. Eugene Torre, Rogelio Antonio, Wesley So, Darwin Laylo, Jayson Gonzales, Bong Villamayor, Joseph Sanchez, Mark Paragua, and Nelson Mariano II are among the ten chess grandmasters from the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) gave an award to Bince after winning the tournament. Operiano received an award from DSWD Region V since he is a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program recipient (4Ps).
Mr. Operiano thanked DSWD during the award ceremony for assisting them with the 4Ps. He also delivered a message to the populace, encouraging them to keep going towards their goals even in the face of hardship.
“Dapat hindi maging hadlang ang kahirapan upang maabot natin ang tagumpay, bagkus ang kahirapan ay dapat na maging panlaban nating mga mahihirap upang maging matagumpay tayo sa buhay,” said Operiano.
