Old Birkenstocks Sandals of Steve Jobs Sold for Over P12-million in an Auction

The sandals worn by Apple founder Steve Jobs sold for $218,750 or more than P12 million at an auction in Los Angeles, California.

The late Apple founder is best remembered for his casual attire, which included a black turtleneck, jeans, and dad shoes. Job wears Birkenstock sandals all the time. The well-used pair of brown suede, two-strap sandals that Jobs wore in the 1970s and 1980s was bought on Sunday by an unidentified buyer.

According to Julien’s, an auction company, the sandals sold for nearly $218,000, the highest amount ever paid for a pair of sandals at auction. The brown suede Birkenstock sandals, produced in 1970, are reportedly the most costly sandals ever, according to Julien’s Auctions.

“Steve Jobs wore these sandals during many pivotal moments in Apple’s history,” the auction house said in the online listing. “In 1976, he hatched the beginnings of Apple computer in a Los Altos garage with Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak while occasionally wearing these sandals,” said Julien.

Because Jobs wore the sandals frequently over the years, you can see the shape of his feet in them. The shoes were first appraised at roughly $60,000, but were ultimately sold for $218,750, which is still a significant sum when you realize that a new pair of the same style goes for $125 (Jobs’ foot imprint excluded).

Jobs tragically passed away in 2011 as a result of pancreatic cancer complications. His worn-out sandals have shown in numerous displays since his passing, from Milan to New York City to the German headquarters of Birkenstock.
