Escorial, the shooter who took part in Lapid’s ambush, turned himself into the police. The action was taken to enable a “fair investigation into the death of inmate Crisanto Palana Villamor, Jr. while imprisoned at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) this October 18 afternoon,” according to a statement by Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

“I went to the President to tell him about this… he asked me to preventively suspend Undersecretary, Director General Bantag of Bucor, so that there may be a fair and impartial investigation on the matter,” said Remulla in a statement this Friday.

Gregorio Catapang, Jr., the former chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), will be temporarily replaced. in his place, Bantag. This past Tuesday, Escorial, who had surrendered and acknowledged killing Lapid, was shown to the media. He said that an NBP convict had served as the “middleman” who had given the order to kill the journalist.

According to his medical record, Villamor passed away on October 18 four hours after Escarion made an appearance in public. Recall that on October 3 in the evening, Lapid was shot and died while he was on his way home to BF Resort Village in Las Pias City.
