Back in 2015, Pia Wurtzbach was asked this question during the Miss Universe competition and she said that given a chance, she wants to change her answer.

The winning answer that Pia gave was, “To be a miss universe is both an honor and a responsibility. If I were to be miss universe. I will my voice to influence the youth and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HV awareness that is timely and relevant to my country which is the Philippines. I wanna show the world, the universe rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart. Thank you!

After giving her answer, loud applause from the audience was heard. Pinoy pageant fans were expecting that her name will be called the winner. However, before she was finally crowned a controversy happened when host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced the name of Miss Colombia instead of Pia’s name.

Prior to the final round, the Pinay beauty was asked his question: “Earlier this year, there was a controversy in the Philippines about the United States reopening a base in your country. Do you think the United States should have a military presence in your country?

Her answer to this was, “I think that the United States and the Philippines have always had a good relationship with each other. We were colonized by the Americans and we have their culture in our traditions even up to this day. And I think we are very welcoming with the Americans and I don’t see any problem with that at all.”

In her recent birthday shoot vlog, Pia Wurtzbach that she will not change her answer for the final round but maybe she could just make minor revisions and make her face more relaxed while answering.

However, with the semi-final round question regarding the US military base in the Philippines, she said that she is aware that this might be brought up in the future. “Tingin ko that won’t age well. ‘Yung sinabi ko kasi na we were colonized…Kasi ngayon mas napag-uusapan na yung effects ng colonialism. In a few years, I think that answer will come back to me on Twitter,” she said.

She also said that she could have given a better answer. Pia also said back then, she was in front of an American audience and so she gave a safe answer to the question with a touch of politics.

Pia said that at that time, she thought that was the right answer and she was not that “woke” yet when it comes to this issue. “We learn, we grow,” the Pinay beauty said.
