Excess Passengers in Bus, Jeepney to Face Charges

Bus, Jeepney Drivers to Face Charges for Excessing Passengers Limit

The Land Transporation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will charge bus and jeepney drivers who will be caught in excessing passengers.

For those found operating passenger buses and contemporary jeepneys with an excessive number of passengers, fines are severe. Atty., the head of the LTFRB, has stated. Cheloy Garafil, after a document allowing standing in some passenger vehicles was published.

Based on the report, for the first infraction, a P5,000 fine would be assessed, according to Garafil. Once they commit a second or third crime, their license may be revoked or their ability to operate that unit is suspended.

“First offense is P5,000, and then when it’s a second or third offense, it’s suspension of their operation, that unit or revocation of license when it’s been done multiple times,” Garafil said.

Garafil promised that the correct execution of the LTFRB’s order will be observed. Additionally, there are MMDA enforcers and inspectors who will conduct extensive monitoring to ensure that it is put into practice.

“We have MMDA enforcers, our inspectors are also there, we will be doing a lot of motoring, that’s why we have talked to MMDA, our LGUs, enforcers to make sure it is implemented. And our compatriots who can ride can report to us,” Garafil said.
