Congress Approved Bill to Declare August 18 in Naga City as ‘ Robredo Day’
ROBREDO DAY – Congress approved the bill declaring the 18th day of August as a special non-working holiday in Naga City.
Congress has already given its third reading approval to the Jessie Robredo memorial request in Naga City. With the help of 248 votes, the congress finally passed House Bill 3973 or ‘Declaring August 18 every year a special non-working holiday in the City of Naga, Province of Camarines Sur, to be known as “Jesse M. Robredo Memorial Day,”
Based on the article of Naga City News, a copy of the said proposal has now been forwarded to the Senate. According to the said proposal, this is in recognition of Robredo’s being a good public servant.
“Jesse Robredo served a total of 6 terms as a city mayor and a champion of transparency, government accountability, and citizen’s participation in governance,” according to the explanatory note of the said proposal.
“Under his careful tutelage, Naga City flourished and gained international recognition as a model of effective and transparent local government. Jesse M. Robredo is and continues to be a stellar example of outstanding public service.”
The motion was approved by Liberal Party representative Gabriel Bordado Jr. of the Camarines Sur 3rd District. Recall that Robredo passed away in 2012 when the aircraft he was on crashed.
He is Leni Robredo’s husband, the current chairman of Angat Buhay and a former vice president. The former vice president still hasn’t commented on the said bill’s passing via congress.
