Ruru Madrid had this experience during an audition
Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid shared his reaction when veteran actor Phillip Salvador slapped him during an audition.
Ruru now has his leading man role in the series Lolong. Before reaching this point in his showbiz career, he went through a lot of auditions just to start his dream to become an action star.
The Kapuso actor revealed in a recent interview on Toni Gonzaga‘s YouTube talk show Toni Talks that Phillip Salvador and Robin Padilla are among his favorite action stars. After being discovered by director Marjo J. delos Reyes, he was told to audition for the Kapuso talent search Protege.
In the said show, they had mentors who would help them achieve their dreams to become actors and actresses. There was an instance when Ruru Madrid had to do a monologue about a son who is being beaten by his father.
As Ruru was doing the monologue, apparently, Phillip was not carried away. The veteran actor told the younger actor to think like he is the father. So, Ruru began his line, “Alam mo ‘tay…” then, he felt a strong slap from the veteran actor.
It was the first time he experienced a slap in his entire life. The Kapuso star revealed that he really cried after that slap but continued acting his lines. After his performance, Phillip said, “good job!” He was able to get the Protege stint but he was not declared the winner.
He thought that it was already the end of his career because he did not win. Despite not winning the competition, new doors of opportunities opened for Ruru Mardrid. Later on, he became part of the remake of the Kapuso series Encantadia.
Because of this stint, many fans said that he will be the next Dingdong Dantes. The praises that he received boosted his ego in a negative way. Ruru admitted that he felt he became “mayabang.” Fortunately, he was able to change that attitude.
