K-winning Pop’s Streak of BlackPink, Seventeen and BTS at MTV VMAs

Blackpink, Seventeen and BTS are the K-Pop idols who make another history to bring the pride for winning different awards during MTV VMAs 2022.

The most nominated group at this year’s awards show, BTS, won group of the year for a record-breaking fourth consecutive year. Along with the Billboard Music Awards, Grammy Awards, and American Music Awards, the MTV VMAs are one of the four major yearly music awards programs in the United States.

Based on the report of Inquirer.Net that the K-pop phenomenon’s victory was announced during the award ceremony on Sunday in Newark, New Jersey, but the band members chose not to attend because they are presently concentrating on solo projects here in South Korea.

Blackpink, City Girls, Foo Fighters, Imagine Dragons, Maneskin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Silk Sonic were among the other candidates in the same category. The best K-pop, best choreography, best metaverse performance, and best visual effects nominations all went to BTS. The report mentioned that For his contribution to “Left and Right,” a song he wrote with American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth, Jungkook received a separate nomination in the category for song of the summer.

The septet won best group and best K-pop at the 2019 VMAs, giving them their first accolades. It won three more at the VMAs last year and four more prizes in 2020. At this year’s VMAs, in addition to BTS, other K-pop artists received nominations and won awards.

Blackpink received nominations for best metaverse performance and group of the year. The last time the act took home a trophy from a U.S. music competition was in 2020 with the K-pop girl group’s smash “How You Like That,” making history as the first K-pop girl group to do so.

Blackpink won the prize for the newly produced greatest metaverse performance before the ceremony had started for their in-game concert in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. BTS, Charli XCX, Justin Bieber, Rift Tour, and Twenty One Pilots were among the other nominees.

Lisa, the first solo female K-pop performer to win the accolade at the yearly U.S. music show, won the title for best K-pop after defeating formidable rivals BTS, Itzy, Seventeen, Stray Kids, and Twice.

Blackpink also made history by becoming the first female K-pop artist to perform at the MTV VMAs and the fourth girl group overall to do so, behind Fifth Harmony, the Spice Girls, and TLC. The group performed its most recent single, “Pink Venom,” during the yearly event.

Following their selection as the first-ever K-pop artist to participate in the global “MTV Push” program, the boy band Seventeen was awarded the winner of the “Push” performance of the year award. The group is the first K-pop ACT to win the awarD.
