Imee Marcos disclosed the White Onion Importation Modus
Imee Marcos disclosed the illegal importation of white onions into the country, following the contentious unlawful resolution approving the importation of 300,000 metric tons of sugar.
The disclosure made by Sen. Marcos was done after the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized the P36 million worth of onions in Misamis Oriental, that were declared as “spring roll patti” and “plain churros”
Due to the absence of inventories during the planting and harvesting seasons, Marcos is not persuaded that there is a shortage of white onions.
Currently the retail price of 1 kilo white onions in Manila sells for P270 -400, according from a report made by the DA.
Marcos urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) to determine whether there is actually a shortage of white onions in the country, according to Philippines Star.
The senator also requested that the DA undertake the same investigation in sugar and porcine PAP (processed animal protein).
However neither of these items are present in the agency’s data, and the warehouse they examined is completely empty.
In a report, the senator issued a warning to anybody taking part in unlawful activities at the Department of Agriculture, whose secretary is her brother President Ferdinand Marcos.
“Let this serve as a fair warning to all concerned, we are aware of the modus operandi going on. It’s the same old story. Paulit-ulit na lang, eh ” Senator Imee Marcos said.
It was recalled that the Agriculture Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian had left his position following the illegal resolution authorizing the entry of 300,000 metric tons of sugar into the country, without noticing the President.
Sebastian apologized to the President after he signed the Sugar Order no. 4 even without securing an authorization from the Secretary of the agency which is the President himself.
