JC de Vera has a new movie with Janine Gutierrez
Actor JC de Vera talked about the sign language scenes that he did with actress Janine Gutierrez in their Cinemalaya film Bakit Di Mo Sabihin?
In the movie, JC and Janine play the character of a couple who are both deaf-mutes. In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, the actor said having this kind of role is very difficult but he has enjoyed the journey. He also said that it is nice to learn sign language.
This is the first movie of JC and Janine together. The actor praised his leading lady. It is because of the ability of Janine Gutierrez to memorize the sign language scenes. “Kasi, alam mo lahat ng scenes nung sign language na gagamitin, memorized niya lahat,” JC de Vera said.
He added that Janine’s memory is really sharp and she really prepares for every scene. The actor said that his leading lady would enter the set and be ready for the take without refreshing what to do. He also said that Janine really knows what to do.
With this, the actor said that he would feel nervous because of how his leading lady has prepared. “So ako, kinakabahan ako. Kasi, parang… ‘Ano ba itong kaeksena ko?! Mas prepared sa akin!’ sabi ko,” the actor enthused. He said that in every scene he would review the sign language that he would do because it is very complex and scenes go one after the other.
JC shared that there were times that Janine would help him review the sign language scenes. They had to memorize each other’s lines because they have no other means to cue them that it is already their turn to do it.
When asked if they weren’t able to do adlibs, unlike the normal speaking scenes, JC de Vera revealed that they actually did a lot of adlibs. Their adlibs in sign language were taken from what their characters have said.
