Shinzo Abe’s shooter told police that his mother was bankrupted by religious group

Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s shooter, revealed the reason behind his shocking act on Friday, July 8.

Abe was doing a speech while in a campaign event near train station in the western prefecture of Nara when the crowd heard two gunshots. Authorities arrested the shooter at the scene where he was wielding a homemade gun.

Five hours after the incident happened, based on the report from ABS-CBN News, the former Prime Minister of Japan was pronounced dead.

Shinzo Abe’s shooter told the police that initially, he intended to kill a leader of a religious group that bankrupted his mother because of donations.

Yamagami also admitted that he planned to kill the former PM because he believes that Abe promoted the group in Japan. Prior to executing his plan, the shooter revealed that he visited locations where Abe delivered his speeches before the House of Councillors election will happen on Sunday.

The shooter also said that he killed Abe not because he is opposing the former Prime Minister’s political beliefs.

On the day of the incident, police search the house of Yamagami and they found stuff that believed to be explosives and homemade guns.

Shinzo Abe’s shooter was a manufacturer in the Kansai region from around the autumn of 2020 until May this year. Prior to this, he was a member of the Maritime Self-Defense Force for about three years through August 2005. Currently, Yamagami is unemployed.

Based on the report, the former Prime Minister of Japan died from blood loss. The autopsy report stated that there were two gunshot wounds, on his upper left arm and neck. Another wound was found on his neck but it was not determined what caused it.
