Jinggoy Estrada returns to Senate
Senator Jinggoy Estrada said that he and fellow Senators who came from the entertainment industry plan to have a “celebrity bloc” in Senate.
Sen. Jinggoy was first elected as Senator in 2004 and then he served until 2016. He ran in 2019 but he failed to enter the magic 12. This year, he marked his return to Senate after his success in the 2022 elections.
Currently, Sen. Jinggoy, who is a former actor and producer, is not the only Senator who came from showbiz. Sen. Bong Revilla, Sen. Lito Lapid, and Sen. Robin Padilla are actors as well.
Based on the report from TV5, Jinggoy Estrada said that a celebrity bloc can be formed in Senate but there is nothing final yet.
The son of former President Erap Estrada first mentioned this plan after his oath-taking last June 28. Their bloc consisting of those who had showbiz careers will be called “Apat na Sikat”.
Sen. Jinggoy also said that Senator Loren Legarda can join them as their “muse.” The latter was a former commercial model and news anchor.
Although there is no finality yet, Sen. Jinggoy said that their group will be a strong bloc. “We are a formidable group, if I may say. Maybe we’re going to meet once or twice a week and discuss the issues in the Senate. Of course, we will vote as one kung magkakasundo kami,” he said.
Based on the report, forming blocs in Senate is common because through alliances, it will be easy for Senators to push for the bills that they are supporting. Previously, Sen. Ping Lacson, Sen. Tito Sotto, and Sen. Gringo Honason were known as the “Macho Bloc.”n
