Charo Santos talked about the staying power of her drama anthology
Veteran showbiz personality Charo Santos revealed the factor that brought the Kapamilya drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya to its 30th anniversary.
MMK has brought so many inspiring stories to the Filipino audience for three decades. Over the years, the show has been part of the lives of many people, as well as artists in front and behind the camera.
The staying power of MMK, for Charo, could be attributed to how she would deal with the people who were so willing to share their lives with other people. Based on the article in Inquirer, the ABS-CBN executive said that 30 years have passed for the show because of her ability to “listen to every person who has a story to share.”
“You have to be genuinely and sincerely interested in the person you talk with. For me, they aren’t just faces in the crowd. Every one of them is going through an important journey, one that’s uniquely theirs. This uniqueness is what you get and share with the audience,” Charo Santos shared what she would do in order to dig into people’s emotions.
She also shared that they have shared several stories from people who would always prioritize the interest of their loved ones over the things that they need. For her, it is called “delayed gratification.”
Then, the veteran showbiz personality recalled her own experience when her father died. She said that she would always put her mother and siblings’ interests first before she would focus on herself.
“Whenever I’d travel, I don’t mind if I don’t get to buy anything for myself but I make sure to get them ‘pasalubong,’” Charo Santos recalled.
She also shared her advice to those who are starting to save up. Charo said that it is important to be mindful of financial matters at a young age. She said that even as a high school student, one must save up for the future.
