John Lapus has accepted the status of his acting career
Comedian John Lapus said that he is not ashamed to admit that his acting career is already a “has-been” because this made him realize one thing.
John, also known as Sweet, has played remarkable characters on TV and in movies over the years. However, he considers himself as “laos” now. He said, based on the article in Bandera, that he has already accepted the truth that as an “artista,” he is already “laos.”
“Yung mga kaibigan ko sinasabi, ‘Wag mong sinasabi ’yun.’ No. Kailangan kong aminin ’yun because dahil doon, doon ko na-embrace itong bagong career ko as a director,” he said.
From being a comedian, John Lapus has ventured into directed and he has already done several projects. He said that he went through the “has-been” phase three times already.
“Tatlong beses na yata akong nalaos. Ang unang laos ko, from ABS kinuha ako ng GMA. ’Yung mga kaibigan ko sinasabi, ‘Magdirek ka na. Ang baklang artista may time limit.’ Aba, jackpot, kinuha ako ng GMA noong 2006,” he shared adding that his second “laos” was when he returned to ABS-CBN and then now, that he is back to the Kapuso network with a directorial job.
“Tinanggap ko na ang katotohanan. Ang daming bagong baklang artista, mga baklang artista, hindi ko kilala. Sikat pala sila sa social media,” John said. He added that there are new artists now who are so popular on social media.
Although he is not active now as an actor or comedian, John Lapus is still thankful that he was given a chance to direct and this became his fallback. One of the biggest blessings that he got this year was the chance to be the director of the sitcom of Kapuso royalties Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes.
John is also a writer for Daddy’s Gurl, the sitcom of veteran comedian Vic Sotto and Phenomenal Star Maine Mendoza.
