However, through social media, supporters of certain candidates have been posting claims about celebrities’ political choices without even confirming the real views of those celebrities and this is what happened to Maria Isabel.

Based on the article in Balita, the former beauty queen has a video in which she talked about the candidate who should receive the votes of Filipinos. A netizen commented on this with the claim that Maria Isabel Lopez supported Marcos.

“Wow. Di ba Marcos yan siya dati sa pagkaalala ko. Nung 80s,” the netizen said. This received a comment from the seasoned actress. “Never! I was in Edsa 1986,” Maria Isabel said adding that the movies with adult theme were shown at Experimental Cinema of the Philippines (ECP) to “distract the restless citizens.” She said that those movies were used as political tools for the said purpose.

One of her movies that was shown at ECP was Isla. It was her movie with veteran stars Joel Torre, Paquito Diaz, at Gil de Leon.

Maria Isabel is a certified supporter of Vice President Leni Robredo. She and her daughter Mara are Kakampinks. In the video, the actress said that she is a Martial Law Baby and she was able to witness the shutting down of ABS-CBN back then.
