DICK GORDON’S PLATFORMS – Here are the accomplishments of Senator Dick Gordon and the things he promises to do if he gets elected again as Senator in the May 2022 Elections.

Richard Gordon, commonly known as Dick Gordon started his journey in public service when he was elected as the youngest delegate to the 1971 Constitutional Convention. He ran for President in 2010 but unfortunately, he did not win. Currently, Gordon is the Senate Chair of the Blue Ribbon, Committee on Justice and Human Rights, and also the Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND

Dick Gordon graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1962 with a degree in Bachelor of Arts, History, and Government. Then he took up law at the University of the Philippines and graduated in 1975. He handled different positions in the government. Gordon served as Olongapo Mayor from 1980 to 1986 and 1988 to 1993. He also became a Governor of the Philippine National Red Cross and Chairman of the Department of Tourism from 2001 to 2004. Until now, since 2004, he is the Philippine Red Cross Chairman.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Over the years, the effort of Dick Gordon to serve his countrymen received recognition from various award-giving bodies. He has ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM), the Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL). The lawmaker was also recognized by the University of the Philippines as the Most Outstanding Alumnus in Public Service. Eventually, he received the Most Distinguished Alumnus, the highest award that could be bestowed by the UP Law Alumni Association.

As a Senator, Dick Goron authored at least 45 laws, including the one that abolished the death penalty during the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Other laws that he passed were the laws that extended the validity of Philippine passports and driver’s licenses.

  • Push the Regional Investment and Infrastructure Coordinating Hub (RICH) in Central Luzon was vetoed by President Rodrigo Duterte and he plans to have hubs in Negros, Panay Island, Cagayan de Oro, and Bukidnon
  • To build airports and seaports to generate more jobs
  • Pledges to set up safety nets and competitiveness-enhancement measures in agriculture and reverse the government’s reliance on food importation
  • Continues to push for the passage of the RICH bill (a one-stop-shop for farmers to fulfill their different needs)
