Personal Background

Isko Moreno has been raised in the slums of Tondo, Manila wherein he was once nicknamed “Scott”. He spent his childhood in poverty and collect junks to earn money. His mother also gathers leftover foods from restaurant garbage bins for dinner.

Moreno started his showbiz career in 1993 after talent scout Wowie Roxas discovered him during a funeral in Tondo. He was featured in various Philippine movies and television shows.

The 47-year-old politician entered politics in 1998 after he was elected and sworn in as councilor for Manila’s first legislative district. Isko studied while fulfilling his duties and eventually earn a business administration degree from the International Academy of Management and Economics in Makati.

In April 2014, he received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities in Community Development (Honoris Causa) from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. Currently, Domagoso is serving as the 22nd mayor of Manila since 2019.

Accomplishments

Moreno has been tasked to enforce laws, supervise local projects and ensure the delivery of basic services and facilities. He focused on improving infrastructures such as beautification of public schools and building health facilities.

Manila topped the 2020 ranking of highly urbanized cities under Domagoso’s leadership. He also led Manila’s COVID-19 response programs.
