OPLAN BAKLAS: Comelec Removes 250 Kg of Campaign Materials in Cebu
CEBU, PHILIPPINES – The authorities have removed a total of 250 kilogram of campaign materials in Cebu during Oplan Baklas.
The Commission on Elections is currently implementing stricter rules and regulations regarding the installation of campaign materials as the 2022 National Elections approaches. They were removing posters posted in inappropriate areas.
The poll authorities have also launched “Oplan Baklas” with the aim to remove oversized campaign materials in private properties. Some people agree with the move but some of them expressed their opposition to the move.
Recently, Comelec-Cebu election supervisor Jerome Brillantes said that the agency was able to remove a massive number of campaign materials during Oplan Baklas. The materials installed in prohibited areas have been removed.
Campaign materials installed in areas such as trees, electric posts, and other prohibited zones. However, the authorities did not remove the posters installed in private properties and establishments.
According to the agency, Cebu is the “most vote-rich” province throughout the entire Philippines. Brillantes also called the attention of political candidates to remove the campaign paraphernalia installed in prohibited areas.
The authorities brought and turned over the campaign paraphernalia at Comelec’s office for listing.
Comelec conducted the Oplan Baklas together with the police authorities, environment department, and several non-government organizations.
