The video footage of a Pinoy devotee performing “Painless Penitensya” during Good Friday goes viral after it was posted online.

Holy week or locally known as ‘Semana Santa’ is a significant religious observance for the country’s Catholic majority. Catholics make up 80 percent of the population and majority of them observed the religious holiday.

Good Friday, which is a part of the holiday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday, and Black Friday.

Some devotees are performing “Penitensya” during those holiday believing that they could atone for their scene by experiencing the same suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ at the cross of Calvary.

A Facebook user named Maestro Jhigz has shared the video footage of a Pinoy devotee performing “Painless Penitensya” during observance of Good Friday. The video garnered various reactions from the netizens.

In the video, it can be seen that the shirtless devotee covered his face with a piece of cloth and withered palm leaves. The man is also hitting his back with a rubber interior used as a tube for tires.

However, people who witnessed the scene considered it as a “Painless Penitensya” for not using the traditional tools. The incident happened last Friday (April 15, 2022) during the observance of the religious holiday.
