Regine Velasquez is unaffected by the “pangit” remark
Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez shared her advice to the younger generation who are suffering from the beauty standard of society.
Regine admitted that she is not as beautiful as other female celebrities in the Philippines but people can attest to her remarkable singing prowess. In a recent episode of Magandang Buhay, the guests were three of the young female stars of the Kapamilya network – Xyriel, Janine, and Krystal.
They were asked why people who are getting older tend to have more insecurities. Their answers concentrated on their physical attributes as they tend to be more aware of how they look and their environment.
Hearing the answers from these young celebrities, Regine Velasquez said that she feels uncomfortable that these teenagers have that way of how they talk about their flaws.
“When I was your age, I never cared,” the Songbird said. She said that even before, she never thought that she was pretty because, at a young age, she would always hear people calling her “pangi.”
She also said that would comment that she will not be popular because she is ugly. “Pero it didn’t matter to me,” the singer-actress said. This is because she knows that her talent is remarkable.
“It did not matter to me because magaling ako kumanta, feeling ko magaling ako kumanta, parang, o sige, pangit ako pero meron akong talent na wala ka,” she said.
This is the reason why she grew up not feeling insecure despite she was being tagged as “ugly”. On the other hand, she made the young female celebrities understand as they grow much older, more insecurities will come.
“Kayong mga bata kayo, dapat wala kayong iniisip na ganun,” Regine Velasquez said adding that each of them were created perfectly.
