Nadine Lustre Urges Public to Stand Against Bridge Construction in Siargao

Nadine Lustre Opposes Planned Construction of Bridge in Siargao Island

Actress Nadine Lustre urges the public to stand against the bridge construction to Secret Beach in Siargao Island allegedly planned.

Nadine blasted the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) intention to build a bridge to Malinao’s Secret Beach on her Instagram account. The actress, who now resides in Siargao, believes the project would harm the ecosystem.

It also worries that some homeowners may lose their houses as a result of the bridge being built. She pushed locals in the area to object to the DPWH project during a meeting with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

“Secret Beach is definitely one of the most peaceful spots on the island. It makes me so sad to know that people are planning to build a bridge that will totally destroy the area. It will also destroy the mangroves, seagrass… disrupting the natural habitat of other species living in this protected area,” said Nadine.

The island, according to the actress, is still recovering from the terrible typhoon Odette. She went on to say that Malinao is already lovely and should be maintained.

“The island hasn’t completely recovered from Typhoon Odette… I wish this was more prioritized than anything else. Malinao is already beautiful as it is. Secret Beach should be preserved. Please come tomorrow and say NO,” she added.

According to some estimates, the project will cost 144 million dollars, and some speculate that it would be used only for the island’s rehabilitation. Nadine’s Instagram post has yet to receive a response from DPWH.
