Ivory Aquino to Play the First Trans Character in DC Universe Film Batgirl.
A Filipina-American actress Ivory Aquino will play the first ever transgender character in the DC Universe “Batgirl”.
Ivory Aquino, a Filipina-American actress and star of “When We Rise,” has been cast in the DC feature film “Batgirl,” in which she will play the first transgender character in live-action DC Comics.

Ivory is most recognized for her role as Cecilia Chung in the LGBTQ rights drama “When We Rise,” which premiered in 2017. The transpinay will play Alysia Yeoh, Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl’s best friend, played by Leslie Grace.
Both Aquino and Yeoh are transgender, making this the first live-action feature film version of a DC Comics story to include a trans character. Yeoh first appears in a Gail Simone-written and Ardian Syaf-pencilled issue of “Batgirl” in 2011.
Although the confirmation was initially reported by Deadline, an entertainment news website said there has been some conjecture following Grace’s Instagram story with Aquino in the earlier weeks of the year. Grace tagged Aquino and captioned a snapshot of two ladies crossing the street with “Barbara and Alysia” on her Instagram story, which appeared to be from the set of the film.
The inclusion of a developing trans character in a film by Warner Bros.’ DC Films Division marks a significant step forward in the representation of the LGBTQ community in the entertainment industry. It should be noted that actor Zack Barack, a transgender man, initially appeared as Peter Parker’s classmate in Marvel Studios’ “Spider-Man: Far From Home” in 2019.
Adil El Arbi and Billa Fallah will direct Batgirl. Meanwhile, it has been stated that the aforementioned feature film will show on HBO Max.
