Leila De Lima on Her 5th Christmas in Jail Wishes for Her Freedom
Convicted Senator Leila De Lima wishes for freedom and vindication for the 5th Christmas celebration while inside the jail.
De Lima is now seeking to be released from her incarceration in connection with a pending drug prosecution. After celebrating Christmas inside the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Quezon City, the senator makes this call.

De Lima has been behind bars since his arrest in February 2017 for allegedly selling illegal drugs inside New Bilibid Prison when she was still the Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ). Her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade was purportedly in exchange for money for her Senate campaign in 2016.
De Lima, on the other hand, has constantly refuted the allegations, claiming that they were made up by the Duterte administration. Despite the difficulties endured during the holiday season, she also asked Filipinos to exhibit love and compassion.
De Lima emphasized that Christmas would always be a “season of hope, love, and humility,” and that challenges in people’s life are unavoidable as a result of violent and unjust laws.
Pananalasa ng sakuna, tulad ng bagyong Odette,” she said.
