Duterte Orders Additional Budget For Agencies Handling Odette Response
ODETTE RESPONSE – Senator Bong Go says that President Duterte has orders for an additional budget to help those affected by Typhoon Odette.
As 2021 comes to a close, Typhoon Odette ravaged through parts of Visayas and Mindanao. According to officials, Odette, (internationally named, “Rai”) is said to be the strongest Typhoon that entered the Philippines this year.
Thousands of families were affected and many are left homeless. Buildings were also destroyed along with bridges, roads, and airports. Furthermore, a large percentage of people in the Vis-Min region are left without electricity or cellular signal.
Because of this, Duterte wanted government officials to tap into the Quick Response Fund (QRF) to hasten relief operations in affected areas. Based on an article from Inquirer, Go said:
Nagbigay rin ng dagdag na directives si Pangulong Duterte sa mga ahensya, katulad ng paggamit ng mga Quick Response Funds nila; pagbibigay ng housing assistance, including provision of housing materials for repair of damaged houses; tulong para sa nasirang mga bangka ng mga mangingisda at iba pang agricultural machineries; repair ng mga nasirang gusali, tulay, paliparan, daungan, kalsada at iba pa
Additionally, Go said the President ordered tens to serve as temporary homes as evacuation centers fill up quickly. Moreover, extra food, water, and medicine were also ordered for those in need.
Along with this, military vessels and other ships were used as floating hospitals along Dinagat Island and Siargao. Meanwhile, the DOH said it would also sent medicine, medical equipment, and personel to facilitate evacuess.
According to Go, Duterte will personally visit Negros Occidental to oversee the relief operations. However, Go did not disclose when the President would conduct his visit.
