BDO Needs To Compensate Victims “Swiftly”, As Assurance “Not Enough”
BDO SHOULD COMPENSATE VICTIMS – Recently, several users of Banco De Oro fell victim to fraud. As a response to this issue, BDO required every user of their online banking system to update their passwords.
Following the mass fraud incident, BDO said that they already implemented additional security measures to negate future fraud. However, House Deputy Minority Leader and Bayan Muna Partylist Rep. Carlos Zarate said this is not enough.
According to Zarate, it was clear that the fraudsters compromised BDO’s system. Because of this, he filed a resolution to probe the recent unauthorized transactions of BDO accounts.
Based on an article from ABS-CBN, Zarate said:
I think it is not enough that there is an assurance specifically from the banking industry or BDO at ibalik at reimburse ang nawalan ng pera, with a caveat pa pag napatunayan na walang kasalanan ang depositors. Padadaanan pa sa butas ng karayom, eh malinaw ang system nila ang na-compromise
Additionally, Zarate said that he wants to push for Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to track down lenders who failed in securing their depositors’ money. Meanwhile, BSP said it was coordinating with banks after complaints flooded over the weekend.
Unfortunately, BDO has yet to release an official update regarding the issue. Earlier, BDO released its first public statement which read:
We are aware of a sophisticated fraud technique that has affected some of our clients. We assure you that we have already implemented additional security controls to block further attempts and continue to protect bank credentials.
