Ilocos Norte Councilor Shot to Death After Attending Flag Raising Ceremony

Unknown suspects shot a councilor to death while allegedly attending a flag raising ceremony near the municipal hall in Ilocos Norte.

The councilor was identified as Apolonio Medrano, a former police officer, according to the article. Medrano was shot near the municipal hall in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, and died as a result.

During the course of the police investigation, it was learned that the victim had even attended a flag-raising ceremony before being shot by the fleeing perpetrator. The victim earned gunshot wounds to the body. The councilor was planning to run for councilor again in the upcoming Election of 2022.

According to the victim’s son, he had no idea that his father had an adversary or he had received a death threat. The relatives of the victim were likewise unable to comment on whether the crime was politically motivated.

The reason for the crime and the identity of the perpetrator is still being investigated by authorities. Meanwhile, in Baliwasan’s seaside, two Basilan town mayors and their security aides are attacked.

In an incident happened at the Seaside of Baliwasan, a coastal community in Zamboanga City, police stated Al-Barka Mayor Darussalam Lajid of Basilan and a security aide, Barad Nuruddin, were slain, while Akbar Mayor Alih Salih and another aide were wounded. When the victims were attacked, they had just arrived from Basilan and were walking towards a mosque.
