Face Shield Policy, Roque Says It Should Still Be Enforced

Roque addresses plea to end face shield policy

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said during a press briefing on Monday that the face shield policy should still be enforced.

One of the protocols that were implemented amid the pandemic was using face shields in public places and transportation. However, there are Filipinos who disagreed with this as other countries have no such rule.

On November 8, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno lifted the mandatory use of face shields but stressed that it will still be effective in hospitals or medical settings.

During the press briefing on the same day, Roque stated that the face shield policy should be observed until the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases would say otherwise, based on the report from The Philippine Star.

He also assured the public not to worry as the IATF is studying the lifting of the mandatory use of face shields. The secretary also reminded the local government unit that all the mayors are still under the supervision of the President and that the decision of IATF is also the decision of the Chief Executive.

Ang desisyon sa ngayon, ipatupad muna ang face shield habang pinag-aaralan pa po… Kailangan sundin natin ang chain of command sa executive branch of government,” Roque stressed.

Days prior to the announcement of Mayor Isko Moreno to lift the mandatory use of face shields, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas already scrapped the face shield policy.
