Here Is The Meaning Of Hernando Ocampo’s Ina Ng Balon
INA NG BALON – In this article, we are going to learn about the meaning and the message behind Hernando Ocampo’s Ina Ng Balon.
The Philippines is home to many great artists. Among these is Hernando Ocampo – one of the country’s National Artists. His major works such as Ina ng Balon, Calvary, Slum Dwellers, Nude with Candle, and Flower are celebrated even today.
Although art can be interpreted in different ways, we still have a rough idea of what Ina ng Balon means. Most of Ocampo’s works consisted of bold and abstract shapes borrowed from nature.
Even though Ocampo’s work is somewhat abstract, it mirrors the harsh realities of his country after the second world war. But, in the 1960s, Ocampo developed a new art style of abstract painting inspired by the country’s flora and fauna.
Much like Ina ng Balon (Mother of Waves), the shapes and colors found in the painting appear to move and multiply. Rather than capturing semblances of nature, Ocampo was more interested in how shapes, colors, and contrasts interact with one another.
He died in Caloocan at the age of 67, and he was posthumously named National Artist for the Visual Arts several years later (1991). Ocampo’s beautiful artwork and legacy are a source of pride for his adopted country and an inspiration to artists all across the world.
