Ka Tunying reacted to Maria Ressa for winning the Nobel
Broadcaster Anthony Taberna, also known as Ka Tunying, congratulated Rappler CEO Maria Ressa for her Nobel Peace Prize award but with sarcasm.
The recognition that Ressa received from the prestigious award-giving body elicited various reactions. When the Palace congratulated her, Ressa answered, “Thanks, but no thanks.”
She is known as one of the fervent critics of the current administration. Following this, netizens even launched a campaign urging the award-giving body to nullify the award for Ressa.
In his recent Facebook Live, Ka Tunying also shared his reaction to this. He congratulated the Rappler CEO but his sarcasm was obvious, based on the article in The Philippine Star.
“First of all, gusto kong sabihin sa inyo, I’d like to congratulate Maria Ressa for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Kaya anong problema natin do’n?” the broadcaster said.
He added that Ressa might be deserving to receive the award if there is a certain requirement that was found in her. “So deserving s’ya doon kasi malay n’yo ang requirement o criteria ng Nobel Peace Prize award na ‘yan, Nobel Peace Prize committee o ano man ang tawag d’yan, kung ang requirement nila ay kailangan galit ka kay Duterte o magkalat ka nang kasinungalingan laban sa sarili mong bansa,” Taberna said.
The broadcaster said if that was the requirement then Maria Ressa deserves to be a Nobel Peace Prize awardee and indeed it should be given to her.
Ka Tunying also defended President Rodrigo Duterte against the claim of Maria Ressa saying that the Chief Executive was harassing her after she was convicted of cyber libel that was filed by businessman Wilfredo Keng.
The broadcaster added that he lost his admiration for Ressa after accusing the President of harassing her.
