Comelec Slams Circulating Fake News Claiming “No Election” for May 2022
The Commission on Election (Comelec) clarifies circulating fake news on social media claiming that there will be “no election” in May 2022.
Commissioner Rowena Guanzon’s proposal for a postponement of the May 2022 elections, according to Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez, is “fake news.” The culprits behind the transmission of fake information have been chastised by the Comelec.
“Commissioner Guanzon is not, repeat not, recommending that the 2022 National and Local Elections be scrapped,” Jimenez wrote in his Tweet.

Jimenez released that statement referring to was the October 17 article of the Adobo Chronicle that allegedly recommended Guanzon postpone the Election to next year. “This Adobo Chronicles report stating otherwise is obviously #fakenews,” Jimenez said.
Guanzon also seconded this and pointed out that it was ‘fake news.’ Jimenez responded when he said that the website was satire media.
“In an environment where a significant segment of the public are unable to separate fact from fiction, I am leery of accepting the ‘satire card,” he further said.
The Comelec recently clarified misleading news that presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo had been disqualified for the election, following videos circulating online claiming that Robredo had been rejected. The clarification comes after the presidential candidate’s campaign team launches an internet fundraising campaign to raise funds for their campaign.
“Video and articles that imply or suggest otherwise are #fakenews. COMELEC’s reminders on prohibited sources of funding apply to all would-be candidates. #fightfake,” he said.
“Pare-pareho silang lahat na walang violation dahil hindi pa naman sila official candidates,” he added.
