Quezon City Police escort suffer injuries after an inmate being transferred to another police station stabbed him and escaped.
While being transferred to the Fairview Police Station 5 (PS 5) jail in Quezon City, a person under police custody (PUPC) or inmate escaped from two police officers. When he lost his shackle, he stabbed PCpl. Arjay Caybayab, 27, with a fork.
According to the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) report, the event occurred in the city’s Doa Carmen Subdivision, Barangay Commonwealth. Inmate Ferio Merabel was apprehended in PS 13 on charges of violating Sections 5 and 11 of RA 9165, according to the investigation.
Merabel was riding in a Hilux 23 driven by Pat. Lorenzo Macarilay with three other PUPCs, while PCpl. Cayabyab is the escort in the back of the mobile to be taken to PS 5. Merabel and another convict, Sherwin Golondrina, covertly unfastened their right handcuffs while walking across the area.
At his chance, Golondrina thrust her fork into Cpl’s neck. “I’m sorry, sir,” Cayabyab continued, “but I’m going to murder you!” However, just as the police officer was about to be stabbed in the neck, he managed to break free from the prisoner and was stabbed in the left hand.
Pat Macarilay instantly put down the phone, and Merabel hopped into the car and drove to Kapalaran and Doa Nicasia Streets in the mentioned Barangay. Following the encounter, PCpl Cayabyab and Pat Macarilay surrendered, while fellow officers started a “manhunt” for the fugitive.
