MMDA On Surprise Granular Lockdowns Say: “Please Huwag Magalit”

MMDA Pleads To Public To Not Get Angry At Surprise Granular Lockdowns

MMDA GRANULAR LOCKDOWNS – “Please huwag kayong magalit”, said the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority regarding the surprise granular lockdown plan.

As Metro Manila continues to show rising COVID-19 infections, the government implemented a new lockdown scheme. On top of the general community quarantine, a new “alert level” system is also in play.

However, areas in Metro Manila would not get a heads up if they would be under the new Alert Level 4. In lieu of this, local officials expressed confusion regarding the new mandate.

In response, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos pleaded to the public not to be mad at their mayors. According to an article from ABS-CBN, he said:

“Please lang po huwag kayong magagalit sa mga mayor ninyo. Talagang ito’y estrikto nating ipinatutupad. Ito’y para sa ating lahat”

Following over a year of lockdowns, the Philippine government has continued to implement new systems in a bid to lessen the daily infection rate.

But, Metro Manila had recently lowered its lockdown status from an enhanced modified community quarantine (EMCQ) to a GCQ. As such, a doctors group called out officials and expressed opposition to their decisions.

Eventually, these criticisms led Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque to get emotional. In a viral clip, he went on a tantrum and said that the doctors’ group had done nothing but criticize the government’s pandemic response.

Furthermore, he stressed that the group hadn’t said anything positive about how the government handled the pandemic. Unfortunately for Roque, this led to further criticisms of him and his demeanor.
