DILG Says Granular Lockdowns Will Be Surprise
GRANULAR LOCKDOWNS – Amid surges of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila, the government is about to implement “surprise” granular lockdowns.
Recently, Mayors from Metro Manila expressed concerns regarding the new “granular lockdown” policies. As such, they called for a more concrete plan.
But, instead of this, Interior Secretary Jonathan Malaya said that the granular lockdowns will be a “surprise”. According to an article from GMA, Malaya stated:
“Wala namang warning, hindi mo malalaman. Ang nakakaalam lang kasi ng datos ay ang City Health office“.
Previously, the national government announced that residents would be informed in advance if their area would be placed under a granular lockdown. Instead, Malaya explained that giving a warning would “defeat” the purpose of the new lockdown policy.
Granular lockdowns are a new quarantine system implemented on top of a General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Here, “alert systems” would be implemented depending on the number of cases and certain other factors.
Unfortunately, local officials are still left in the dark regarding the complete classifications of the new protocol. Meanwhile, the new guidelines are set to be released either on September 13 or 14.
As a response to the issues raised by local officials, Malaya said that he himself was confused at times. In lieu of this, he said that the government wanted to simplify the new alert level system first.
“May mga konting maliliit na lamang na pinagdedebatehan pa sa IATF, ngunit sa tingin ko handang handa na tayo for the transfer“, said.
