Boracay Casino Proposed, Mayor Says Island Going To “Different Direction”
CASINO IN BORACAY PROPOSED – Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the tourism industry felt a heavy blow, especially in Boracay.
To circumvent this issue, a Casino project was proposed following President Duterte’s green light. Previously, gambling was banned on the island. However, Duterte recently ordered to lift the ban on the resort island.
Obviously, there was heavy opposition to the project. But, Malay town mayor Frolibar Bautista said that critics should have an open mind. During an interview with ABS-CBN, he said:
After ng closure, pinag-usapan na ang Boracay maging family tourist destination. Ngayon iba na naman ang magiging direction so tingnan natin ano ang mangyari d’yan. Minsan ang pagiisip kasi natin pag sa casino iba na ang pananaw natin
In line with this, Billionaire Andrew Tan of Megaworld said his company was ready to push through with the Casino Project. Furthermore, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation Chair Andrea Domingo confirmed that the President approved two casino projects on the island.
As per the article, these casino projects would be led by Megaworld and the Macau-based Galaxy Entertainment Group. Meanwhile, Bautista emphasized that Casino operations would increase funds after the island was hit by the effects of the pandemic.
“Talagang nahirapan na kami pag walang turista“, he said. Moreover, he noted how Casinos have operated on the island for several years and nothing bad happened.
“May process naman doon yan kasi di naman basta bibigyan ng permit kung walang license sa PAGCOR or walang endorsement sa council”
