Netizens Take Issue And Slam Galvez For Proposed “Memorial Wall” For Medical Frontliners

NETIZENS SLAM GALVEZ – Amid mass resignation, unpaid benefits, and a slew of other issues, Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez Jr. proposed a “Memorial Wall” for medical frontliners.

During President Duterte’s pre-recorded public address, the vaccine czar said that the wall would become a “mural that will tell the heroism” of frontliners. Furthermore, unlike the delays in the hazard pay for many medical workers, Galvez said that the project would be done by December.

Additionally, this mural would also be located in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. However, despite the gesture geared toward celebrating health workers as heroes, netizens criticized Galvez’s decision.

Bakit parang feeling ko mas pinaghahandaan ninyong mamatay kami kaysa paghandaan na maayos ang covid19 response para wala ng mamatay“, one netizen wrote. Meanwhile, others emphasized that the government should prioritize providing support to struggling frontliners.

Long before the Commission on Audit raised the issue of “deficiencies” in the Department of Health’s COVID-19 budget spending, health worker groups have already complained about not receiving their hazard pay.

However, as a response to the issues, Health Chief Francisco Duque III pointed toward private health centers and said that they should be held accountable.

Meanwhile, more and more health workers continue to speak up and call out the DOH for the delays in hazard pay. As such, President Duterte ordered the DOH and the Department of Budget Management to do whatever they need to to pay the frontliners.
