John Riel Casimero Beats Guillermo Rigondeaux
CASIMERO – Pinoy boxer John Riel Casimero retained his World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title with a split decision win against Guillermo Rigondeaux.
Filipino professional boxer John Riel Casimero is a three-weight world champion. He is known for his moniker as “Quadro Alas” which means Four Aces.
The 31-year-old boxer was born in Ormoc City, Leyte. He currently resides in Barangay Guizo in Mandaue City, Cebu. He trains and lives in the city’s IPI Gym.

John Riel Casimero may not have the slickest or fanciest skillset in the world but he has a powerful punch. He got his first shot at a world title when he challenged South African boxer Moruti Mthalane for the IBF flyweight title.
On Saturday night (Sunday afternoon in Manila), the Pinoy boxer had a fight against the 40-year-old 2-time gold medalist, former World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Bantamweight World Champion “El Chack” of Cuba Guillermo Rigondeaux.
In his previous Facebook post, he said he’s not the type who shies away from any big names in boxing. He said he feels that the titled defense against Rigondeaux is what he needed.
“To those who are saying this fight is high risk, I want to say this is what I want. I don’t want to fight weaker and small-time fighters. Our legacy in boxing is built on big fights,” he wrote.

Chasing and stalking throughout the fight, John Riel Casimero was able to keep the WBO Bantamweight title with a split decision win over Guillermo Rigondeaux. Their fight was held at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
The Cuban boxer was booed during their fight because he keeps on moving. One judge favored Rigondeaux, 115-113, while 2 judges scored 116-112 and 117-111 in favor of the Pinoy boxer.
