2 Female Claimants Arrested for Claiming Package Containing P9.5M Ecstasy

Claimants of ecstasy “party drugs” worth PHP9.58 million were arrested during a joint controlled delivery operation in Quezon City Philpost Office.

According to the report, the two women were arrested after claiming a package allegedly containing party drugs at the Quezon City Central Post Office. The subject cargo came from Neuss, Germany on June 28, 2021, according to records.

According to the statement of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), the box contained a foot massager as well as 5,637 ecstasy tablets. The cargo was declared as “Children’s Toys, Somer Sandals, Bag, Socks, Pants, Rain Boots, and Birthday Stock,” according to the BOC.

The illegal substances were identified through non-intrusive x-ray scanning of the subject package by the X-ray Inspection Project (XIP NAIA) and K-9 sniffing, according to the statement. The subject package was confirmed to contain ecstasy, which is categorized as a dangerous substance under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, after a thorough physical examination by the customs examiner.

To arrest the receivers, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) NCR and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group. The PDEA is currently investigating the claimants, who have not been identified.

The suspects are facing charges for possible violations of RA 9165, also known as the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, as well as Sections 1400 and 1401 of RA 10863, popularly known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
