Library Van Project In Ilocos Norte Helps Students Amid Lockdowns

LIBRARY VAN – In Ilocos Norte, one van roams around barangays in Vintar to provide students with learning materials amid the pandemic.

Due to the lockdowns, several students have transitioned from face-to-face classes to online and modular. However, a large percentage of students are left behind as many don’t have access to new learning platforms.

Luckily, a project of the Florentino Camaquin Integrated School called “The Library Van Caravan Project” was created. Here, students or anybody that likes reading, will have an opportunity to learn.

According to the school’s principal, Arnel Sabuco Jr, there would be a variety of reading materials for all ages. Furthermore, based on an article from ABS-CBN, the principal said:

This project is anchored to the DepEd Memorandum No. 173. S. 2019 – Hamon: Bawat Bata Bumabasa (3Bs Initiative), which is to develop reading competence in all learners and grounded on the needs to develop subsequent reading interventions for the learners

Meanwhile, the project has three stations. In the first station, the caravan has a reading station where people could read any of the books in the library. Next, there’s a watching station where they could watch reading activity material for students. Finally, an IT station is present where students have free access to the internet and use tablets that has reading links.

Moreover, the schedule for the caravan is every Tuesday and Thursday. The principal stated that they would visit one barangay in the morning and another in the afternoon.
