India Records Highest Daily COVID-19 Deaths Worldwide As State Revises Count
INDIA RECORDS HIGHEST DAILY DEATHS – Following a revision of numbers, India now holds the record for the most COVID-19 related deaths in a day.
Initially, the numbers were from public hospital records. However, after the state included those who died at home and in private hospitals, a more accurate number was recorded.
Before, the United States held the highest daily deaths at 5,444 COVID-19 related deaths on February 12. However, India, after recording the additional cases, reported 9,400 deaths from about 5,400.
Currently, India has a total caseload of 29.2 million after the number of infected rose by 94,052 in the past day. Meanwhile, fatalities due to the deadly virus are now at 359,676, based on data from the health ministry.
As of now, India is still struggling with containment of the virus. According to an article from Reuters, Indian hospitals have run out of beds and oxygen following the second wave of the virus in April and May.
Sadly, this led to people dying in parking lots just outside of health care facilities or at their homes. Along with this, many of these deaths are yet to be recorded. With this, experts believe that the true number of deaths could still balloon as more cases are discovered.
