Here’s the Reason Why BTS BIOT Trended on Twitter
BTS BIOT – Here is the reason why the BTS BIOT trended on microblogging site Twitter on Sunday, June 6, 2021.
The Bangtan Boys or better known as BTS is considered one of the hottest boy bands in the world. Millions of people just can’t get enough of septet – composed of Suga, Jin, J-Hope, RM, Jungkook, V, and Jimin, especially online.
2020 was a record-breaking year for them after the release of their first fully English-language single, ‘Dynamite.’ The K-pop group bagged 7 Guinness World Records last year.
South Korea’s conservative society has changed since BTS used its voice to influence and promote equal rights. The superstars also support lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+). They have addressed encouragement and comfort for the said community.
In some countries, the term “gay” is still used as a derogatory term. We are already in the second decade of the 21st century and this homophobic rhetoric is still common.
Recently, the BTS BIOT (gay) topped the trending topic on Twitter after the fans of BTS, also known as ARMYs expressed their disappointment towards the viral photoshoot of students. Some Filipinos still use the word “gay” disrespectfully and negatively.
The topic gained thousands of engagements as Pride Month is being celebrated. A netizen has called out the school “for allowing their students to promote hate and prejudice against other nationalities.”
One netizen wrote: “The #BTSBiot is a discriminatory and homophobic act against BTS.”
I am very disappointed by my own country to think bts dont deserve to be called BTS BIOT and it really hurts me the most because I am also a filo-army. We army’s in Philippines a defend bts to be called by that but to many people they found it funny, Im sorry #filipinoapologize pic.twitter.com/V5ko2l06tq
